Houston Zoo Photo Day

The Houston Zoo had another of their Photo Days this weekend. It's an opportunity to visit the zoo 2 hours before it opens and becomes more crowded. They usually have a couple of special programs and a speaker at each event.

I always enjoy visiting the Giraffe exhibit. They are so graceful and interesting to watch as they move around.

There was a scheduled activity with the Orangutans, but they weren't as cooperative as I've seen them in the past. Before that started, the keepers fed the fish and turtles that are in the moat surrounding the Orangutan exhibit.

The orangatans (mother and son) came out and had their breakfast, although the mom went off into a corner to have hers.

This weekend was also the grand opening of the redesigned Jaguar exhibit. It and the Jaguar's didn't dissapoint those that came out to see it.

The last scheduled event was a session with Ernie the Porcupine. I learned a lot about porcupines from the zookeeper.

Here are some other photos I took as I walked around between the scheduled avtivities.
You can see my other photos from this trip to the zoo at my Flickr Photostream by clicking on this link.
If you enjoy photography, you really need to check out the next Photo Day. You can find more information on this and other events at this link.

Glad to see you back. Awesome pictures; it seemed like you were right next to the animal. The duck color was so vibrant. What was with the red nose on the jaguar?
