We were walking down a trail that we thought was going to lead us to the gunnery range at the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. We decided it was further than we wanted to walk and turned around. This funny looking creature was running toward us on the trail. It got to within five feet of us before it realized we were on the trail. It stopped long enough for me to capture a picture before it scampered off in the underbrush. It was the first time we had seen a roadrunner "live".
